Safuwan Baharudin must be the third happiest Singaporean yesterday, after the two $12 million Toto Hong Bao winners.

Our national team defender made history as he became the first Singaporean to score in the A-League.

And Safuwan, who is on a three-month loan with Melbourne City, chose the best time to do so.

With this team losing 0-1 to third-place Adelaide United at half-time, the 23-year old led his team's 3-1 comeback victory by scoring the equalizer in the 52nd minute.

And what a goal it was.

The Adelaide defence failed to deal with a corner and Safuwan rifled his shot into the top of the net with his right foot.

With this win, Melbourne City moves up one place to 6th in the A-league table.

This means Melbourne City stands a good chance to qualify for the A-League final series, a tournament that includes the top six placed teams.

[I]t was Safuwan Baharudin who was the hero first. Adelaide failed to deal with a corner in the 52nd minute and the Singaporean international fired his shot into the roof of the net from close range to the delight of the home fans.

Sydney Morning Herald ("Melbourne City get impressive win against Adelaide, regain finals berth")

Socceroos striker Josh Kennedy and new Singaporean signing Safuwan Baharudin sparked an impressive second-half fightback with their first goals for the club after the visitors had gone to the interval a goal to the good thanks to Pablo Sanchez's 32nd-minute opener.

From Aaron Mooy's dipping corner, the ball was inadvertently steered by the head of Tarek Elrich into space at the back post, where Safuwan dispatched it into the roof of Eugene Galekovic's net to open his account for his new club.

As Melbourne City FC is owned by the same consortium that runs Manchester City FC, Man City fans will wake up this morning and wonder if they should sign this goal-scoring defender from Singapore.
