Kudos to S'pore Civil Defence Force for reacting swiftly, calmly in real life and online

They remained unfazed after they were accused online of being unprofessional and responded swiftly to win back public confidence.

A video accusing the Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedics of being unprofessional and not doing double time even when it was obvious a man was lying unconscious on the ground made the rounds on Facebook around noon on Jan. 29, 2015.

The video alleged that the SCDF paramedics who were called to the scene in Woodlands to attend to a critical situation were not reacting fast enough and even insinuated that the man did not pull through as a result.

None of these details were verified, but that did not stop The Real Singapore from publishing it.

Barely five hours after the video made the rounds, SCDF posted a statement on their Facebook page that served as a classy rebuttal.

They explained that the man caught on camera who was rendering assistance was coincidentally an off-duty SCDF male paramedic who was passing by the area and had stopped to help the cardiac arrest patient.

And when he ascertained that the patient had no pulse and was not breathing, he immediately administered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), while asking a member of public to get an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from a nearby school.

The SCDF also revealed that the patient pulled through, most likely as a result of the CPR administered, and is recovering in hospital. This is contrary to the claim in the video posted on Facebook that insinuated the man did not make it.

This is the off-duty SCDF personnel in the video administering CPR in his SCDF uniform:

Reactions from the public have been more than positive once the facts of the case were made known:
