5 more moments that prove Singaporeans are the most impatient people on the planet

Back by popular demand. Many readers have been waiting impatiently.

1. When you find out there's a website waiting for a certain someone to die.

Personally, we feel this is pretty mean-spirited.  But you have to give some credit for the amount of effort given to maintain this seemingly not-for-profit site.  We still think that dedication can be harnessed and put to good use elsewhere, though.

2. When you look back and see that we've been really impatient trying to get those sports medals.

"Look at the French World Cup football team. In the final against Brazil, I picked Zidane as the most outstanding French player. He is of Algerian descent. Of the 22-players, more than half did not look "French". They looked Argentinian, Armenian, Basque, Caribbean, Ghanaian, New Caledonian. Some were born in France, but of immigrant parents. Others are first generation French citizens. When they went up to receive their medals, President Chirac embraced all of them as Frenchmen. He sent a strong political signal for multi-racialism and against xenophobia: that in France, so long as you contribute to the French cause, it does not matter what colour your skin is or where you were born.

Last year I told you Singapore would never have a chance in the World Cup, because the rules require all players to be citizens. But after watching the French victory, I have changed my mind. Maybe if we change our immigration criteria to bring in top football talent and make them citizens, then one day we too can get into the finals. In fact we intend to do just this, to bring in sports talent." - Ex-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, 1998 National Day Rally.

Remember GOAL 2010?  We were too impatient in trying to get those achievements, so we opted to bring in sports talent.

Now, I'm not belittling the achievements of Tao Li or Li Jiawei, but one can't help but agree we might have rushed it a little, instead of taking time to nurture talent of our own.

3. When we hate our internet connections (which is apparently quite fast, but we still wish it was faster)

"61.0 mbps? Really meh, doesn't feel like it."

4. When we simply cannot wait for another second on the Internet.

"SingTel! It's been 5 seconds and you still haven't answered my queries!"

"SMRT! Why did the train breakdown again? I've been waiting for 2.3 seconds!"

Sometimes we forget that a thorough investigation is needed before there can be any answer.

5. When we simply cannot wait to get out of the train.

MRT-brake

This is true in most counts because Singaporeans are always rushing to somewhere. However, we know of some cheeky fellas who think that the Emergency Stop Button in the train serves the same purpose as the stop bell on the bus. Either that or their hands are perpetually itchy. Or they lack common sense.

Well, push it and you will definitely get stuck. And prepare to face the wrath of other commuters.
