Tyler Brule, the editor-in-chief of the totally-up-there culture magazine Monocle, said in February 2014 that there will be no Monocle cafe in Singapore because service standards here are lacking.

Guess somebody is eating his words now.

After that haughty posturing, Monocle's Singapore shop-cafe-bureau will officially be opening in late December 2014.

Located at a two-storey terrace house at 74 Jalan Kelabu Asap, just adjacent to Chip Bee Gardens opposite Holland Village, this is how the space-deprived interior looks like:

The rest of the shop is stocked with merchandise and sells coffee.

For the inedible side of things, Monocle’s Singapore office on the second floor has plans to hire not more than five editorial people, according to one source.
