Class 95 & Kiss 92 are No. 1 in S'pore, depending on which newspaper you believe

Looks like they are only hearing the good stuff.

The Nielsen Radio Diary survey publishes the radio listenership in Singapore twice every year.

The number one English-language radio station in Singapore at the moment, depending on whether you read the news from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) or MediaCorp, is either Class 95FM (MediaCorp-owned) or Kiss92 (SPH-owned).

Indeed, you would be pretty confused who the real number one is:

Check out Channel NewsAsia's article:

Class 95

And here's The Straits Times':

Kiss 92

So who is the real number one?

ST's report goes on to elaborate that Kiss92 is "the No. 1 English-language radio station in Singapore, based on share of listeners, according to the Nielsen radio survey."

'Share of listeners' measures a station's total number of listeners and the length of time they tune into the station.

The ST report did state in its sixth paragraph that Kiss92 is the second most popular station based on listenership, after MediaCorp's Class 95FM. Aside from this mention, ST did not report on the results of other MediaCorp radio stations. The claim that Kiss92 is the second most popular station is erroneous - it is actually the second most popular English station, the honour of second most popular station goes to Love 97.2FM.

For the CNA report, it noted the performances of MediaCorp radio stations but made zero mentions of SPH radio stations.

For the record the listenership are as follows:

Top 5 English stations: Class 95FM (15.9%), Kiss 92FM (14%), Gold 90.5FM (13.3%), 987FM (8.6%), HOT FM 91.3 (8%)

Top 5 Chinese stations: Y.E.S 93.3FM (20%), Love 97.2FM (20%), Capital 95.8FM (18.6%), 883Jia FM (6%), Radio 100.3 (6%)

Other language stations: Warna 94.2FM (10%), Ria 89.7FM (5%), Oli 96.8FM (7%), Expat Radio 96.3XFM (3%)

That's some great objectivity there reading the 'right' things.
