Jodie Lai, a 13-year-old Singaporean girl (pictured above), won Singapore's first-ever Asiad gold in sailing on Sept. 30, 2014.

The secondary one student finished ahead of an eight-woman field in the optimist race after nearly a week of racing at the Wangsan Marina in Incheon, South Korea.

The optimist is a beginner-level dinghy typically used by children to get acquainted with the sport.

The pint-sized Lai, who is only 148cm and 33kg, was quoted as saying after her historic win as if it was slightly more difficult than a walk in the park:

“I thought positive,” she said, when asked how she dealt with the challenge of a chasing pack. “If anything happens, I know I tried my best, so I won’t be that upset.”

Other winners at the games include the duo of Savannah Siew and Kimberly Lim (pictured below), both 18, who won their 420 women's event, while sisters Priscilla and Cecilia Low clinched second-place in the 29er.

The sailors yielded a total of two golds, two silvers and two bronze medals.
