Good Morning Nanyang Cafe at Hong Lim Park closes down due to all the reasons S'poreans have been protesting about

Increasing rental and manpower issues lay waste to three-year-old business.

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe at Hong Lim Park has called it quits after three years in business.

In a short heartfelt note penned by the owner, the reasons cited for its closure include how it "gets a bit tiring" being unable to cope with higher rental costs and manpower concerns.

Here is the note in full:

To my dearest and most friendly group of customers that I have had the pleasure of serving since I started this business in Apr 2005.

I trust you have enjoyed our kopi and toast at Hong Lim Park as much as we have enjoyed serving you the last 3 years. We will cease operations at the end of August, do patronise our outlets at The Grandstand, Far East Plaza, Pagoda Street and Maxwell Chambers.

I will take a short break before scouting for a better location.

It gets a bit tiring when you have landlords interested in only collecting rentals, it gets a bit tiring when 70% of those who respond to your recruitment ads are foreign talent and you can't hire them because of the current quota system. It gets even more tiring when you find very good foreign talent willing to work the required hours, hire them, and they leave 2 years after, all because I do not meet the current quotas.

Take Care and God Bless Everyone!

We'll only part to meet again - John Gay
