Local veteran TV actor Chew Chor Meng has taken the Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 25, 2014.

A video of it has been posted on MediaCorp Love 97.2FM Facebook.

This is particularly significant as the 45-year-old Chew has been battling Kennedy's Disease for more than five years. He had also developed diabetes last July as a result of the disease.

Kennedy's Disease is a rare ailment that causes weakness and wasting of the muscles most noticeable in the arms and legs, face and throat, and causes speech and swallowing difficulties.

It is, however, different from ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is characterised by the gradual degeneration and death of motor neurons and causes muscle weakness with a wide range of disabilities.

The current Ice Bucket Challenge is raising awareness about ALS and donations for its association.
