11 GIFs that imperfectly sum up PM Lee’s National Day Rally 2014

A GIF is worth more than a thousand words, so we like to believe.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong tried to be many things during his National Day Rally on Aug. 17, 2014.

One moment, he was a financial planner teaching us about the Central Provident Fund and the minimum sum.

And the next moment, he became a new media reporter interviewing Singaporeans who were then featured in his speech.

His funny lines also hit the right notes and drew laughter among the audience.

Watching the video again a day after is still entertaining and bound to throw up some things that were missed the first time round, such as who is that young guy wearing black-rimmed hipster glasses seated together with the other Ministers of State (pictured above)?

Hence, we imperfectly sum up last night's National Day Rally in GIFs, because, hey, action speaks louder than words.

1. PM Lee surprised everybody by not dressing in his traditional pink top:

2. He then asked his audience to kee chiu!

3. "I raise my hand... and put in my ear."

Nee Soon GRC MP Patrick Tay.

4. He even sang a song in Mandarin, a first in National Day Rally history.

5. During his Mandarin speech... Are you all not entertained?!

Can't blame Marine Parade MP Fatimah Lateef.

6. Yes, Choa Chu Kang MP Alex Yam bringing it on!

"Give it up for the Pioneer Generation folks! Come on!"

7. Awkward clapping for Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu when she was arrowed to head the new Municipal Services Office.

*Clap clap* "Eh wait, this means you got to do more work, right? Shagged."

8. PM Lee choking back tears during his Mandarin speech.

Emo.

9. Mohamed Zulkifli almost tearing up as PM spoke about his late father Rahmat Yusak, who drove LKY around during the 1960s.

More emo.

10. PM Lee can technology.

11. At the end of giving three-hour speeches, a standing ovation.
