It is tough being a local politician nowadays.

What do you do on a public holiday morning? Instead of going out with your family for brunch, you must remind yourself to wish your residents and constituents online.

Navigating some of the religious public holidays can be treacherous territory. One such example is Hari Raya Puasa, especially if you are not a Muslim or a Malay-speaking Singaporean.

Sometimes these efforts appear awkward. Not everyone can speak Bahasa Melayu as fluently as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong or is a Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.
