The Catholic church in Singapore responded to queries from Mothership.sg, saying that the Church’s "stand on sexuality should not be distorted”.

The Archdiocese Communications Office of the church said that the intent of Archbishop William Goh's statement last weekend was to clarify to Catholics the church's position on the family and "not to engage in a debate on the issue of LGBT purely on the level of reason".  The church explained that "faith, while not opposed to reason, transcends reason".

The Office also said that the "Archbishop, as the chief teacher of the local Church, has the authority and duty to instruct the Faithful according to the teaching of the universal Church".

The Church also reiterated its “consistent” position that “whilst every individual, regardless of his imperfections, is to be treated with love, compassion and respect, we do not condone any act that is contrary to God’s commandments as taught in scripture and by the teaching authority of the Church”.

The statement from the office did not comment on Vincent Wijeysingha's molest claim.

The social work lecturer has written a Facebook note on June 23 2014 to come out openly to say that a Catholic priest had attempted to molest him when he was a 15-year-old.
