38 year-old Soh Chin Chai finished a six-month jail sentence on April 2014 for entering a sham marriage.

The Straits Times published a story yesterday (26 Jun) detailing how Soh was paid $2,700 to marry Vietnamese national Dang Thi Hoang. Dang had wanted to secure a job in Singapore and paid $7,500 to several middlemen for the arrangement.

The report included mugshots of Soh and Dang.

Soh's employer, Jabez Tan, took issue with the report. According to him, the report "seems not to have a(sic) follow up information about Chin Chai's LIFE STORY n(sic) brought up his past criminal case today after six months when the case was over. No date is mentioned in the article which causes confusion n(sic) unnecessary distress for Chin Chai and his family."

Tan, the owner of two Bak Kut Teh shops, posted a photograph of the report on his Bak Kut Teh stall's Facebook page:

The photograph was accompanied with a post from Tan who said that his stall is a social enterprise which has "a mission to provide ex-offenders employment opportunities n(sic) a new start in life."

He called for people to get to know of Soh's life story and to support him. He hopes his post can "update Straits Times the full story so (the) public will be well-informed and readers will be encouraged about the new journey that Chin Chai is walking on."

The post is as follows:

Soh's back-story has been chronicled on The Silver Chef blog.
