Winning the league title is so passé these days.
Reputable international newspapers have come up with some tables to show how Liverpool Football Club, not Manchester City, won the English Premier League in their own way.
Liverpool tops the table in revenues earned from the league.
According to the Financial Times, Liverpool made the most money from television rights deals and commercial income. It made £97.5m in pay, £900,000 more than Manchester City's revenues.
Every Premier League club was guaranteed an equal share, overseas TV money and a central commercial payment (from sponsors and radio).
However, Liverpool took more in facility fees as a result of 28 live TV appearances. This is three more than City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Still feeling disappointed, Liverpool fans? Here's another finding to comfort you.
Liverpool 1st in the league, if we count goals scored by English players.
Two geeks from the New York Times came up with a thought experiement.
How would the league standings look if we only count the goals scored by English players? In other words, City would have drawn its game last Sunday, since both its goals were scored by non-English players.
In this hypothetical league table, Liverpool would have won the league title, with City relegated.

Moral of the story? It pays to be an exciting English team. You earn more live TV revenues because the fans wanted to watch your football matches.
