Mummy, 妈妈, ibu, amma or laobu. Call her what you want.

She is probably the first woman you set eyes on, her name you first blabbered as a toddler.

Today, we honour this special woman as the world celebrates Mother's Day. Mums, the unsung superwomen in our lives, we love you.

Here are 14 things you can do to make her feel like a million bucks. Put her on a pedestal, make every day a Mother's Day.

1. Start off the glorious day with a hearty brunch.

Bring out that "for special occasion only" chinawear. If it means having to drive out to the market, what are you waiting for?

Or make your own brunch (No hipster cafes and eggs benedict please).

2. Take yet another selfie with your mum.

Tell the world how much you love her and share it on Insta-tweet-book, keep it as your profile picture for 7 days at least. You will be guaranteed a smile for a week.

3. Do your own laundry

Wait.. I mean the entire laundry basket. Just in case, separate the whites and coloured. Add her favourite fabric softener and hang out the clothes IN THE SAME WAY SHE DOES (This is very important!)

4. Keep your mum away from the kitchen.

Whisk her away to a staycation and throw in a spa treat. (PS. If mum and dad always bicker, then leave dad behind - mum needs some peace and tranquility)

5. Unblock your mum from your Facebook account

Accept her friend request. You can always block her again after Mother's Day.

6. Take mum for a spin

Drive her in a lamborghini or ferrari if you can spare $500 for a 30 min drive along Sheares Bridge. Glam her up and she gets a certificate for being a hot mum on hot wheels.

7. Cook for her.

Taking mum out for a meal is so passé. Furthermore, you will be fighting for restaurant seats with the rest of the world. Instead, wok up your kitchen and treat mum to a home cooked feast. She will love watching you fumble big time in the kitchen.

8. Bribe your kids into making a card for their grandmother.

You may be subliminally requesting your children to make one for you without having to ask.

9.  Tell her she is the best mum ever.

Don't assume she knows this but do tell her she is the best mum ever. It is always nice to remind her how much of a great influence she has been in your life.

10. Arrange a date for mum and dad.

It may seem awkward to even think about it, but when was the last time mum and dad went for a movie? Go the extra mile, be their chauffeur.

11. Gather all her grandchildren under one roof.

Order that DIY popiah party set. She would thank you for sparing her all that turnip shredding.

12. Give her a hug.

Grab your mum, give her the tightest hug you can ever give. There's never too much hugs in our lives.

13. Call her if you are overseas now.

For those separated by distance, NO TEXT MESSAGES PLEASE. Pick up the phone and TALK to your mum. You may not see her but you can surely hear her smile.

14. Give her a big ang bao.

If you are unsure of any of the above, try the trump card, a BIG FAT RED PACKET... a megawatt smile is waiting to happen.

Finally...

Anyone who is a mum like me would agree that being a mother is the most rewarding and fulfilling experience one can get in a lifetime.

Parenting is pure hard work and a steep learning curve for me.  There will never be a best practice formula.  In the eyes of your child, there's only one mum - you.

Mummy, if you are reading this now, I am telling the world that you are THE BEST no matter what.
