Come June 1 2014, StarHub will be charging its SmartSurf customers $2.14 for its 4G Speed Boost value-added service (VAS).

To the layperson, if you have been using 4G services on your mobile phones thus far, you will need to pay an additional $2.14 starting from June.

StarHub said that it had previously waived the cost of the 4G Speed Boost VAS till December 2013 but has extended it till 31 May 2014. The usual price of the service is $10.70 per month. The $2.14 charged from June is a 'promotional rate' according to StarHub.

StarHub said that customers who do not want to continue to subscribe to the 4G VAS may cancel their subscriptions. They will then be accessing the Internet on their mobile phones through StarHub's 3G network.

Before everyone decides to jump ship to M1 or SingTel, both these telcos have also been waiving their respective 4G services worth $10.70 per month.

M1 has stated on its website that waived the 4G subscription fee till 31 December 2014.

SingTel's website states that the "4G Value Added Service is offered free till a date SingTel determines. Usual price is $10.70/month."
