9 reasons why life sucks with technology

Losing sleep? Eyesight going? Blame technology.

Technology makes many things in life way easier. Technology brought us the Internet and GIFs of cute cats, but has it created an entire generation over-reliant on it? Has technology made us forget to enjoy life simply?

Here's 9 reasons why life sucks with technology.

1. Not living the moment

“OMG THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING. BRB I HAVE TO INSTA THIS!”

Does this line sound familiar? There are just sometimes that people really need to stop putting a mobile device in front of something that they should be enjoying.

For people who have no idea how much damage they might be doing, here’s a good read.

2. Being ever connected means there’s no off button

Being connected all the time also means your dear Boss can reach you 24/7. Ever heard of workplace related WhatsApp groups?

Yep, that is the reality now. And you can’t go incognito because WhatsApp let’s everyone see that last minute you were active.

The boundaries between your professional work and social life used to end the moment you step out of the office. Now, mobile devices have married those boundaries. Yay, weekend work emails!

3. The rise of ‘citizen journalism’ websites

Everyone with a mobile recording device is now a "journalist". A "journalist" who only tells one side of the story and prefers to document injustice than to stop it.

Don't you wish you can do this to stompers?

4. You offload your memory to devices

Birth dates, phone numbers, to-do lists. All of these things which requires memory power has been outsourced to your mobile devices. Good luck when technology fails you one day!

5. There is no such thing as legible handwriting any more. We tap or type.

Think about it. When was the last time you actually had to write more than 50 words?

Children these days are also gradually moving towards e-learning and using computers more; penmanship may be dead in a decade or two.

How I imagine teachers these days

6. Being able to spell goes out the window

Acronyms and emoticons are all the rage these days. Throw in auto correct and we basically use a computer assisted tool to make up for our shitty spelling ability.

7. Reinforces Short Attention Spans

Technology overloads us with so much information daily, our attention spans gets cut ever shorter with all the distractions flying around.

8. Loss of eyesight

While this has been a long time coming since the days of the television but with even more screens popping up at every moment, your eyesight would be the first thing to deteriorate.

Sadly using your phone in bed at every night with the lights off will not give you this:

9. It screws up your internal body block

Most devices emit a light that tricks your body into staying up longer than it should. You could answer emails all through the night without feeling a least bit tired. The ambient glow from screens may affect the release of melatonin, a chemical that helps you sleep.

If you want to get proper rest, switch off your phone!
