The Anton Casey brouhaha shows trolls everywhere are the same

The Singaporean and British audience are rather similar.

Now that the dust of the Anton Casey brouhaha has settled, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has come out to address the nation cautioning Singaporeans against having a lynch mob mentality online.

Speaking at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) ministerial forum late Tuesday, he said "pack behaviour" in social media means rules are necessary to ensure civility as he made a reference to the Anton Casey incident.

However, here's the good news we should all know about: The so-called "unrestrained, anonymous viciousness" that PM Lee speaks of is not unique to Singaporeans.

Below are a handful of comments culled from Yahoo! News Singapore and the UK Daily Mail that are strikingly similar in tone and content, even though they were posted by people who are half a world away from each other.

Trolls will be trolls, regardless of geography.
