Little girl in Tiong Bahru sells bracelets by herself to raise money for typhoon victims

Restores faith in humanity.

It has been nearly a week since Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines and relief efforts are still being cobbled together.

Scores of corporations and individuals from Singapore have been donating money besides essential items such as tents and bottled water.

However, with media attention mainly focused on large scale recovery efforts, a cute little heartwarming thing happened tonight at Tiong Bahru.

A young girl, who is slightly camera shy, was spotted at Tiong Poh Road in Tiong Bahru area selling bracelets outside the ground floor apartment she is staying:

Her nondescript makeshift stall had a black board announcing her fundraiser:

It read: Help Philippines!!! Please donate: Old clothes, books, things that you don't need. Want to know more? Ask the girl sitting!!!

From Aryana of Leyte, Philippines

And her merchandise? Handmade bracelets that go for $5 each:

The sign helpfully mentions that every $5 donated can help buy 15 bottles of mineral water/ 10 cans of sardines/ 15 cups of noodles.

Her little makeshift stall attracted quite a bit of attention. She is perhaps tapping into the sensibilities of her gentrified clientele, who are used to the hipster cafes in the surrounding area.

She is also happy to answer any questions you have.

For the record, Leyte is a province in the Philippines, which bore the brunt of Typhoon Haiyan’s 250 kilometres an hour winds and a 5-metre storm surge.

But if you want to find out more, feel free to ask her.
