If you're one of those drivers who got booked for a traffic violation without even realising you were even booked in the first place, fret not.

You're not alone.

In a span of five months from mid-April to August, 3,612 summonses were issued. And you were caught by who?

None other than a new back-up force to the Traffic Police.

[quip float="pqright"]Known as Aetos auxiliary police officers, 50 of them have been deployed at between 15 and 20 locations daily since April[/quip].

They serve as hired hands on a one-year contract.

Their job?

Don reflective yellow vests that have the words "Traffic Enforcement Officer" written on them and train their video cameras on the road to record footage and use a notebook to take down license plate numbers of errant motorists.

They are also trained to take down notes of any interaction with members of the public.

However, they are not authorised to deal with offenders who speed and drink drive.

As a driver, you should probably think twice about making illegal U-turns. Because 880 summonses were issued for illegal U-turns alone, making it the top traffic violation.

Other top traffic violations include failing to follow traffic direction signs, failing to form up when making turns and red-light offences.
