Come national day, we find ourselves gathering as friends and family, be it in front of the television watching the national day parade or out and about town trying to catch a glimpse of the fireworks. And not to forget the lucky ones, who got a ticket to the parade.

As for me, along with some of the girls above, my fellow Miss Singapores, I celebrated Singapore’s birthday at the heart of it all. In fact, we did a round around Marina Bay. We watched the fireworks from The Sail at a friend’s apartment, had dinner at Catalunya, one of the best restaurants in Singapore located in the heart of Marina Bay, and celebrated the night away atop Marina Bay Sands. There is no better way to celebrate our nation’s independence than with a tribute to her beautiful triumphs.

This year, let us hear from our home grown beauty queens, past and present from the Miss Universe Singapore pageant how they spent their national day, and what their birthday wishes are for our homeland as Singapore turned 48.

"National Day is a time for family, so I stayed at home and spent the day eating and relaxing with my parents and brothers. I hope that we may take pride, as a nation, in our identity and how far we've come, band together in unity and mutual support, and work as one towards a more fulfilling life in this homeland of ours."
